Pier Table
A kitchen table with a semi-elliptical top in blackened oak, on three goal post frames in solid ash. This really stretched my school trigonometry! The legs are angled in two directions and had to end up parallel where they met. I modelled it in Sketch Up but didn’t trust the results (they turned out to be right)The joints in the leg frames are simple half lapped and pegged. One of the many useful things I learned in Sussex was that this is the strongest of the traditional joint types. Modern adhesives are so strong that the main thing is to achieve good coverage and pressure of joint in gluing up, the glue will take care of the rest.
