Equilateral Stools
These were commissioned as a wedding present for a young architect and his wife. The design is a development of the Fah Wong stools, but in a three legged version. The geometry is based on two equilateral triangles, one formed by the legs, the other, smaller one by the joints between the three segments of the top, which is replicated by the junction of the low level bracing rails. For structural reasons the two triangles are rotated 10 degrees on one another. This angle is also replicated in the rake of the legs. The top is set out using the legs as centres for two radii.
The two stools have small differences, to enable them to be "his and hers" if desired. They are mostly made from Lacewood (London Plane) but one has a seat of Cherry, and a slightly different design to the bracing rails.
